Since April 2016 Hanna Burkart lives without a fixed living or working place. During her own site-specific residencies, the artist is constantly exposing herself to new sleeping environments. In her performance series sleeping, Burkart inhabits spaces in international locations and documents her experiences in the ongoing photo series schlafen.international.

In zwei 48 Stündigen Terminen wurden im Raum der Stadt Salzburg unterschiedliche städtische Lebensformen beobachtet und selbst erprobt.
Es wurden kommunikative Verhaltensformen entwickelt, um mit Menschen in unterschiedlichen Situationen in Kontakt zu treten.
Ziel ist es, neue Lebensräume kennen zu lernen und dort mit fremden Menschen spontan und temporär zusammenzuleben.

Ways of Life, Daily understandings, Views on society, Inter-social communication.
In two 48-hour time slots, the city of Salzburg’s different urban ways of life were observed and tried out.
Communicative behavioural patterns were developed with the aim to get to know new living spaces, to spontaneously and temporarily live with strangers.

Settings aus vor Ort gefundenen Materialien. Schlafperformance - erleben der Räume in der Nacht. Spaziergang und Mittagessen mit den Benutzer.
Können Arbeit, Leben, öffentlicher- und privater Raum noch getrennt werden? Was bedeutet diese Trennung? Paulusplatz 5, das Gebäude, eine ehemaligen Molkerei, wurde im März 2016 von den Klassen Skulptur und Raum und Ortsbezogene Kunst neu übernommen, Hauseigentümer und Mitbenützer ist Herr Trösch. Die Arbeit Schlafen bei Trösch, ist ein Dienst dem Ort und den Benutzern gegenüber, bei dem die vorhandenen Räumlichkeiten analysiert werden. Untertags in Anwesenheit von KollegInnen. In der Nacht alleine, um das Gebäude unbelebt für sich stehend zu erfahren. Die Erfahrung des Ortes in der Nacht führt dazu, dass er untertags besser verstanden wird, unteranderem weil er als Ganzes betrachtet und de niert werden kann. Die bewusste Auseinandersetzung mit dem Ort als Einzelperson, bedeutet eine Intensivierung, welche eine Erweiterung des Raums in seiner bishe- rigen Bestimmung herbeiführt. Das Vermitteln der Erlebnisse im Klassenverband soll diese Bestimmungserweiterung sichtbar machen und eine Wahrnehmunsgsveränderung bei den Anderen herbeiführen. Die persönliche Eroberung als Teil eines kollektiven identi kationsprozess soll zeigen, dass es nicht um Arbeitsorte, sondern um Lebensräume im Allgemeinen geht.

A stroll and a lunch with the co-users.Is there still a way to separate work, life, public and private spaces? What does this separation mean? The building at Paulusplatz nr. 5, a former dairy, owned and co-used by Mr. Trösch, was taken over by the Sculpture and Space & the Site Specific Art classes in March 2016. The work Schlafen bei Trösch is an act of service to both the space and the co-users in which the premises is analysed. During the day in the presence of colleagues and at night alone. The duality of these experiences enable the understanding of the animate building and the lifeless building. Without the nighttime experience, the building could not have been fully grasped or even de ned as a whole, during the day. An intensi ed expansion of the space and it’s purpose becomes apparent through conscious analysis of the site, whilst there alone. This personal conquest of space, discussed amongst the collective class’s identi cation process, should open up new perceptions and should also show that it is actually not about work spaces, but living spaces in general.
